New Subject Combination
As of the beginning of Term 2, 2006, I have changed to a new subject combination:
1. H2 Chinese Language and Literature
2. H2 Chemistry
3. H2 Mathematics
4. H1 Geography
I guess I am the only one in the whole school with such odd combination.
Many people questioned my intentions of dropping H2 economics for a H1 Geography, which they claimed is practically useless as the syllabus is very much like the O Levels.
My response to that is after 3 months of attending Economics lessons, I realise that my passion and interest lies in Geography. The plates, the formation of rivers, deltas, volcanoes, pollution... etc.
I don't hate Economics. I mean, I really enjoyed my time with Economics and I have to admit that Economics is a really fun subject. But ultimately, my passion for Geography is greater than that for Economics.
To be a little more pragmatic, whatever that is covered during Economics lessons at JC level will be taught again at university. So, should I wish to learn about Economics, I can always do so in the university. I mgiht as well spent my time now doing something that is of great interest to me.
Then why not H2 Geography?
The reason is simple: H2 Geography covers a great deal on human geography, which i detest. My interest in Geography lies mainly in physical geography. By offering geography at a H1 level, I get to do 2/3 of the physical geography syllabus and only 1/3 of the human geography syllabus that is covered at H2 level.
Simply put, I still get to do a lot on physical geography, but much less on human geography.
I hope that this move would prove to be strategic. Although I have to stay back to attend my H1 Geography lessons at about 4:00PM, my exam for this subject would be this year. And that means I only have to focus/mug on my 3 remaining subjects next year, while others have 4 to do so.
Hmmm, we shall see how it works out.
