Nosebleeding

All right, as the title suggests, this entry will be dedicated to Eugene Tan of class 1L, who happens to be one of my cadets lah.

I have no clue what exactly had happened. It seems like the Sec 1s were given a water break, and all of them rushed for water like desperate Africans and 说时迟,那时快,apparently Eugene was pushed by his squadmates? And then he knocked himself onto the wall?

And, you know what happens next.

Blood began to flow out from his nose like Mt. St. Helens has just erupted. There was like blood all over the "scene of crime", his t-shirt and khaki shorts. The sight was kinda gruesome lah. I had always been a fan of K-1 boxing and seeing bloodied noses and eyes is a common sight. And the boxers always still look strong after those punches and kicks that burst their blood vessels. But after today, I finally realise losing blood can be pretty uncomfortable. I mean, Eugene bumped his head as well and he said he felt dizzy for quite some time and I saw that his lips were very very pale. He was frowning and he looked as if he's gonna faint in any moment. I can't imagine how those boxers can survive in the ring for like 12 rounds?

Anyway, back to topic. So, as first aiders, we tried to provide him with the necessary first-aid. But afterall, whatever first-aid knowledge that we had acquired during lessons are just theoretical stuff. We seldom have real-life cases and scenarios like today's incident. Naturally, we flustered a bit initially. I mean, we know what to do lah, what treatment to provide, what advice to give, but we did not comfort him loh. :P Then, Mrs Nancy Tay came and she was like comforting him all the time, constantly reassuring him every second. Hahahhahaa, well, we had always been told to comfort casualty and to constantly reassure him during competiton trainings, but when the real thing came, we stoned. Hahaaha, a bit embarassed lah, cause we were sorta "lectured" by Nancy Tay for not comforting him loh. But then hey! No matter how good your first-aid knowledge is, you will still panic a bit when the real thing happens.

But, rest assure that Eugene is in safe hands with us around. ;)

So, his parents were informed, and they rushed down and look very panicked. well, i can understand that. I mean, imagine you receive a call all of a sudden telling you that your loved-one is suddenly injured, you wouldnt be calm after hearing that.

when, in the end, he left early to see a doctor. wonder how is he lah. Not only nosebleeding, still got some minor abrasions and we think he sprained his forearm. initially we didnt spot the abrasions, but mrs nancy tay spotted them. she's a certifed first-aider by the way. she's even better than us to be honest. a bit pai-seh lah, but hey, at elast after this incident we managed to learn a few things or so from her.

by the way, i must complain loh. LIAO JIE XUN!!! you are the squad's platoon commander leh, and yet you did not show any concern (not that ying jie and I can sense any) to eugene loh. I mean, H4 was the one treating him leh. And where were you? Playing ping-pong with Sheng Jia.... tsk tsk tsk.....

GOOD NEWS, bad news, GOOD NEWS!!!

GOOD NEWS:

3A 2nd in Sec 3 cohort!!!. We topped in Higher Chinese, Maths and Biology

bad news:

3A is the ONLY APHELION CLASS going to tower block. the eight classes who made it to tower block are as floows, in order or ranking:

3H, 3A, 3I, 3G, 3J, 3N, 3M, 3O

3B got a 9th place.

GOOD NEWS!!!

FINALLY! CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL LEE IS OUT OF THE SINGAPORE IDOL COMPETITION!!!!!

OR A NEW BEGINNING...?

sigh. so school has officially ended. my sec-3 life has officially come to an end.

time flies. really. no, this is not cliche. this is very very true, as true as the sun rises from the east and sets in the west.

i mean, i could still vividly remember the scene when i first entered the sec 3 block carrying my big bag with maths and chemistry textbook (these 2 books were randomly selected to be placed in my bag) as well as my yellow traveller's bag to store my barang-barang for SJAB. don't believe me, then see loh. first day of school was a FRIDAY.

i can still remember that the first person i saw when i stepped into the class was kay siong cause he was getting out at the same time ;)

what else can you remember about your first day of school this year?

to be honest, i can still remember my first day being a sec 1 and a sec 2 student clearly. the scenes and images are still fresh in my mind. no doubt that i am truly looking forward to wear that long pants and attend lessons in the tower block, i sometimes still recall those "good old days", be it primary school or my sec1 or sec 2 life, with nostalgia. sometimes, these memories may not be pleasant, but hey, as one grows older, he tends to be more and more sentimental and nostalgic. otherwise our grandmothers wouldnt be telling us her life living in a kampong while taking care of her seven kids. and cats. and dogs. and poultry.

if you find this entry boring, never mind, this would most probably would not happen again until christmas or New Year's Day/ Eve. i have been using the Morrie's method in dealing with my feelings (Morrie from the book Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom) . i will truly indulge myself in nostalgia for one whole day today, and when the first ray of sunshine appears from the horizon tomorrow, i would move on with my life and stop dwelling about the past. after all, tomorrow is another day. whatever that had happened are classified as "History". it would be useless to cry over spilled milk.

life goes on.

Tomorrow is a new beginning. Treasure the future.

the end.

ok, a quick sum-up of what had happened...

on wednesday, we first completed watching the second half of the movie 〈〈放学后〉〉, after which, we proceeded to some bowling centre in jurong (can't remember which one was it) and you've guessed it. it was our first time that we had bowling as part of our end-of-term-activities. we had 2 ex-TCHS boys to give us some tips on bowling as well. i played only 2 games loh, cause my group only me and kai herng interested in playing more, most of them like minghao and kay siong ain't very good at it, so if only 2 were to bowl, it would be boring.... actually i not very pro one lah, just that, erm... ah-hem, i am better them all of them. i mean, i only scored 60 for my first game and 68 for the second, not exactly impressive when compared to jing kang, kenneth and wei xin who all scored above 70 for their second game.... first game i beat them though, lost to only one of them but i cant remember whom he was. ;) so the first game was "treated" by our school, but subsequent games aren't. The rental of bowling shoes is not included in the "treat", hence we have to fork out something like $1.20 and $2.40 for the shoes and one game respectively.

after that, (let me test my memory), wei xin, clarence, kai herng, yi-en, jason, yu herng, rui yuan, nicholas boo, peng sing, bao chen, zheng jie, rui xiong, shawn choi (who is the only non-2D guy in this supposedly "ex-2D" gathering) and I went to jurong point's seoul garden for lunch. kai herng had made reservations for like 12 places initially, but we had 2 extra tagging along.... anyways, so each paid like $14+ and in order to "make the lunch worthwhile", we ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate.........and the eating goes on.... until to the point whereby all of us were like so bloated that we sweared that we will NEVER EVER come to seoul garden. hahahaha, like what kai herng said, we paid 14 bucks to torture ourselves. hehe. :)

hmmm, after that lunch, kai herng has been ill for 2 days, till today.

thursday. rainy day. no basketball or soccer as planned initially. we stayed at the drama centre instead for some movies. not exactly the types that 8-Days or ST Life section will give a rating of at least 3 stars. they were lame, stupid, but hilarious though. i mean, the story line doesnt make sense and both movies are just as good (or bad) as the scary movie series.

in case you are really bored at home, try Anger Management starring Adam Schiendler (sp?)or My Boss's (or Boss' ?) Daughter starring Ashton Kutcher. VCDs of these 2 movies are now available in all good stores. Have fun and be prepared to be lamed.

friday, or today. i was selected by miss ng to be the panelist for assembly. did practically nothing. sat down in front of the entire sec 3 cohort and asked only a question. even KC asked 2. -_-" . oh before that, we had some prize presentation. when the winner some of SINGA friend award was announced, everyone gasped at disbelief-- We Lai of class 3C won it. i mean, even mr joesph sim on thursday also expressed his disbelief to shiu yuen and I when we went to see him regarding the topic to be discussed for assembly with mr hon. looks like wei lai hasnt got a good name for himself among the teachers and the student population. ;)

so i got my back report book loh. achieved a result that surprised me totally. i thought i would be ranked like 20+ out of 36. but i was ranked 18th!!! woo-hoo, means half the class beat me and i beat the other half of the class!!! yay! actually my MSG is pretty impressive, but because we got like 13 MSG 1.00 students, hence my MSG of 1.29 has been devalued.

FAST FACTS

1.  Dr. John Gorrie of Apalachicola, Florida invented mechanical refrigeration in 1851. Electric refrigerators were first sold to American housewives in 1916, at a cost of $900. In 1956, 80% of all U.S. households had a refrigerator, but only 8% of British households had one.

2.  The first hair dryer was the vacuum cleaner. Around the turn of the century, women dried their hair by connecting the hose to the exhaust of their vacuum cleaners. In early models, the front of a vacuum cleaner sucked air in, the back blew air out, and the hose could be attached to either end.

Eats, Blogs & Leaves

By Jennifer Garrett

One person's revolution is another person's pain.

Just ask Lynne Truss, the author of Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation. A self-described stickler for punctuation, she despairs at the misplaced apostrophe, the erroneous colon, the dangling comma — all of which are far too commonplace on the internet, where the motto seems to be: Faster, Blogger! Kill! Kill! Kill!

Nevertheless, Truss acknowledges that "this is an exciting time for the written word: it is adapting to the ascendant medium, which happens to be the most immediate, universal, and democratic medium that has ever existed." With the ever-expanding power of the blog, more and more people have the opportunity to voice their ideas in the public arena. But why is blogging so powerful? Because blogs are the unedited voice of the people. And why is blogging so horrifying to sticklers like Truss? Because blogs are the unedited voice of the people. Though Blogger gives everything else away for free, sadly the service does not come with a cranky grammar bitch with blue pencil in hand. Luckily for you, however, it does come with a spell-check and an edit button. These tools are your friends. Use them.

A blogger must be a writer and an editor if he wants to attract and keep readers. A well-written blog indicates respect both for the medium and for the reader. Proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar are not merely the tools by which anal-retentive freaks like me get their kicks; they give words meaning, clarity, and, if you're lucky, beauty. Proper punctuation can mean the difference between comments full of flame wars and comments rife with meaningful discourse.

Be kind to your reader. Capitalization and punctuation are the easiest ways to indicate exactly what you're trying to say. It's time for a little tough love, people: Anyone who types in all lowercase needs to be taken out back and beaten. You are not e.e. cummings; you are not being "artistic." You're just too lazy to hit the shift key. If you can't be bothered with the extra keystroke, I can't be bothered to read your site. Don't turn off readers before they even get to your words. (A refusal to capitalize is just one grammar horror that can be spotted at first glance. I can also spot an overuse of the ellipsis at 50 paces. There are two reasons to use an ellipsis (and neither one is because you don't want to write a transition): Use an ellipsis to indicate words omitted from a direct quote or to trail off intriguingly. If neither of these are your intention, try a period. Dot. Full stop. Terminal punctuation can be your friend.)

Both the agony and the ecstasy of blogging is the ability to publish your words so easily; one might even say at the push of a button. This ease-of-use, however, seems to be accompanied by lack-of-use; our internal editors appear to be on eternal vacation when it comes to the internet. "It's just an e-mail" or "It's just a blog" are no excuses for rushed thinking (or even rushed typing). The world can wait a few more minutes. Sit back for a second. Compose your thoughts. Then release to the world your 800-word treatise on why Kill Bill: Vol. 2 is the greatest movie ever made.

Taking time before you write is just one step in the process of the well-written blog. Read over your posts before you publish them; read them over after you've published them. Personally, I always find mistakes after I hit the publish button. (It's a curse.) But if you find the mistakes first, you can avoid that annoying e-mail from the grammar police: "Dear Blogger: You suck. In your post 'Why Barbie Is Bad,' you incorrectly used 'it's' when you should have used 'its.' I'm just telling you this for your own good. Love, analgrammarfreak.com." And if you think people don't write these messages, you are sadly misguided. (Okay, maybe I just write these messages.)

I'm not asking that you be able to name the preterit, imperfect, and subjunctive forms of the verb 'to be.' You don't need to know the 17 reasons to insert a comma into a sentence. (Although, if you did know all 17 reasons, that would be totally hot.) The best way to better grammar: Simplify. If you don't know whether or not to use a colon, a semicolon, or a dash, cut that sentence down! Brevity is the source of wit, after all.

Every blog is a learning experience. You will make mistakes. (I've lost count of how many I've made in this article alone.) Everyone makes mistakes. (In fact, The New Yorker delighted in pointing out all the errors in Eats, Shoots & Leaves.) But let them be honest mistakes, not careless ones. Otherwise, I will report you to the Apostrophe Protection Society. Don't say I didn't warn you.

I.Q. Image Quotient

First day of the play-week

First up, we watched the movie starring jacelyn tay (sp?) -- 〈〈 放学后〉〉 . It is mainly about, er, teenages, especially pai-kia and ah lians and gansterhood (if there is such a word, or is there?) dont knowis it because i have been such a "peaceful" or "guai" school, but somehow i just cant seem to accept their behaviour of the students portrayed in the film, i mean, i cant believe there's such student behaving in such manner in singapore. I just simply cannot imagine that.

next, we had a 3-hour "image-grooming & social etiquette" by Suzenne Zheng. it was definitely a beneficial talk nad i had certainly broaden my field of knowledge once again. I had learnt new things such as dining etiquette and body language, which i dont usually pay attention to in my daily life. well, it was indeed a fun-filled day and i would have truly enjoyed it if only thse lower sec students and keep their mouth shut and keep all those imbecile comments to themselves.

bought suzenne zheng's book, costs me $13, but hey, i felt that it was money well-spent.

sigh, what a boring blog, i am currently in my midst of writing my chinese short story and some other works, so, do check out my blog regularly for updates! ;)

Timberland

ok, so long never blog liao. (not quite lah, considering that some ppl blog like once in MONTHS, and i only 2 days didnt blog.)

so on saturday, graduation day. i was in charge of the duties loh, but i still sneaked in to watch the ceromony anways though i am not selected to represent my class.

aiyoh, wehn i watch the grad ceromony, i was like very very nostalgic, though i am not the one going up on stage to receive those graduation certificates, but still i was like, thinking about my life spent at chinese high as well loh. i tried to imagine myself to be on that stage, but i cant, cause i didnt dare to. dont know how to explain. this kind of feeling is beyond expression.

then next, saw this prize presentation thinggy and i was so envious of them loh, i mean i will never going to get a chance to be onthatstage winning those Best in XXX Awards loh. those people are just so lucky. sigh.

then the thing that angers me the most is the fact that that Jeffery Ng claimed the top student award and the West Zone Colours Award for Track and field loh. i mean, how come there's such person like him in this world? i tot such 文武双全 people only exist in my fantasies but not in reality? i men, i felt killing him loh, cause he's like.. wow... amazing.. super loh... my idol... how i wish i could be like him loh... but its hard lah..... sigh.. argh! why heaven so unfair, give him physical and academical abilities? hile... i have like.....none? sigh.... :'(

sigh.....

anyways, so today Sunday mah, went shopping with my parents. here's a list of what i have bought:

New spectacles + frames : $297
Timberland shoes, sweater, shirt: $178
QB Haircut: $10

I spent nearly $500 including food! All in a single day! wow!

this must be 恼羞成怒. see people get awards but myself no chance, so vent out anger thru shopping.....

sigh. thats all folks.

Homerun 跑吧!华中

As the title suggests, yay! X-country Day.

So, at last, D-Day has arrived. well, not oo bad for me as I am doing public duty for the school loh. So not a truly physical day for me as compared to the rest who have to run 4.8 KM around MacRitchie.

but still, i hiked 4.8 KM, cause i needa dispatch my man to their respective stations. 4.8KM in my sjab uniform + uncomfortable boots + a beret that feels like a bamboo steamer, making my hair feels like some dim sum in it. _SSS_ (in case you are wodnering, that's smoke)

so, all of us gathered early in the wee hours of the morning and had to help the PE dept to carry stuff. Never did i expect my cadets to be slave for those 巴士第三辆(pronounce it in english) , then as usual kena barked by a dog. TCHS should know who am i toking abt lah.

then during dispatching of members, we sorta speed-walk throughout the 4.8 trail and we actually overtook the NCC people that were ahead of us. hahahahaha, we rock sia. even mrs kalavathi praised us loh and said we were more efficient than NCC. dont know what's wrong with NCC lah, but the feeling of being praised is damn shiok.

so, i was at the HQ and i couldnt resist the temptation to eavesdrop on the teachers' conversation loh..... hahaha, especially with miss sim in it, cause she was talking so loudly that it is quite impossible for us not to listen to it. hahaha....

anyways, the rest of my day isnt very interesting lah. shall recommend you guys to take a look at this picture that made the world weep in 1994.

Monday Blues. Monday War

all right. got back physics and english....

heng ah, managed to pass physics leh! 曾几何时,我变得那么“低级”啊?只要求一个Pass, 而不是A1?!?!

so physics i got 56/100. overall got B3. physics, i am the second lowest in class loh. beat ricky by 5 marks. but still, seeing people scoring 56/70 for their section B and C combined, i feel so 自卑。their section B and C alone 就已经 win me liao...

english i got:

expositary essay: 19/30
functional (speech) writing: 24/30
Comprehension: 18/25
Summary writing: 20/25

Total: 19+24+18+20 = 81/110

scale down to /100, i got 74... sigh, everytime english always get 74. cant seem to make it pass the 75-mark. but anyways, overall i got A1 lah...

so now, below is the exact transcript of my conversation with Paul (all names have been changed to protect the identities of the students mentioned and my source). My replies and some parts of the conversation has been edited so as to keep this thing short.

"she refuse to talk to us, and the matter has been blown up. Kee now knows, joseph sim involved, pek and foo knows, chiu knows, the whole staffroom knows."

"let's start with a timeline:

BEFORE mok agrees to joseph sim that extend to 1215
1215 mok goes to LT2
1220 no one comes. mok leaves
1220 mok storms into staffroom in anger.. then confronts kee... then she leaves
1220 XXX and i go find her
cant find her
1225 i leave staffroom; XXX remains
1230 XXX meets her
she refuses to talk to him
arnd 1245 me, A, B, C, D, E go into staffroom
ms ng and chai were being "confronted" by kee
then ms ng stormed out
then she "beckoned" to us out of the staffroom
then she started scolding us
she thot that we were the reason that she got scolded
but the fact is that ke doesnt know whats happening
and she told us that she "doesnt want to come within a 10-mile radius of us as long as mok is our teacher"
and scolded us for not being able to handle the problem properly, and that she had taught us how to handle before
1:15 pm ke talks to us
D launches into some talk about diplomacy and peace
and Kee is convinced that we have nothing to do with it, and that we are innocent and she told us not to worry too much
it is not our business and say that it was caused bec of poor communication between eng dept and mok
but she wants us to apologise to mok by email for not telling her that we were late
arnd late 12 i told u all to dismiss
cos mok dont want to teach anymore
and somewhere in between mok went to find the dean too...
she even got seck bee choo on her side
then at the very end mr sim launches into some talk about having "many diff kinds of ppl in life"
someone saw her gesturing animatedly to seck
every1 was able to detect her anger
From sunita to chiu to foo
some 3B ppl said that mrs chai's eyes were red, she was getting "confronted" alone by kee until she sms ms ng to come "join her"
Mok told loklf eng dept that she had to check paper today at 12pm
thats why loklf posted "optional"
or else, checking of eng paper would be given HIGHER priority
even tho she booked first
mrs kee understands that she said the whole prob was caused bec of "poor communication" between eng dept and mok
sim and kee have officially 'exempted' us from this whole problem, they say its not the students fault
Mok even told someone that she can "recheck what"
mr sim says that this thing can ying xiang 情緒, its very regretful"

What's your say?

-End-

got back bio and maths results on Friday

bio: 62 / 100

maths: 73/100

expecting such results lah. but at least i didnt have any careless mistakes. all those qns that i answered wrongly i all dont know lah.... not like chem.. so not so guilty loh.

hmmm, unless my calculations prove otherwise, i should be able to achieve an overall A1 and A2 for maths and bio respectively despite my exam result, which is pretty disgraceful in comparison with the class. :(

ok. negative feelings aside. went to KBox on friday, after the preparation for today's open house. sang a lot of songs again. sorry guys, for not being able to keep my promise of not singing as much as on thursday. :P

1。爱情36计--蔡依林
2。海盗--蔡依林
3。Fly Away -- F.I.R.
4. Lydia -- F.I.R.
5. 笨小孩
6。刀马旦--李纹
7。爱的主打歌 -- 萧亚轩
8。布拉格广场--蔡依林

and many more....

ok, so today TCHS open house loh. turnout was pathetic.... all our efforts in those advertisements for st john's all gone down to drain..... me and kai herng were like "meng" paste all those signs that directs visitors to our booth loh... all those arrows, but sigh.... only abt 20 ppl (including parents) came.... sigh. stupid SU lah. everytime must fight space with us loh. on friday we wanted to hang our banner, then they say this space they wanna sue as "enquries station", then ok loh, we give in loh, hung the banner somewhere else. then the next day we went to paste more posters, then the stupid SU shifted their darn "enquries station" to our poster-area and removed our posters without our permission. F*** lah! who they think they are? very big is it? damn!

heard that RI ,cat high and one other top sch also got open house today loh..... so coincidence... or unlucky?

oh yah, last but not least. JERRY'S FINALLY BOOTED! HURRAY!

Chemistry Result:

CA: (78+85+78+66) / 4 = 76.75. Scale down to 30% = 23.025
OP: 2
ACE: 20
Exam: 67.5 / 100. Scale this to 45% = 30.375

Total= 75.4 (A1)

phew! -_-" yah....yah.. screw up my chemistry exam lah..... i lost at least like 7 to 8 marks due to carelessness.

Some classic careless mistakes:

1. Write down the molecular formula for iodine

My answer: F2

2. Draw the structural formula for water. I got the hydrogen bonding part correct, but here's how i draw the water molecule:

O-H-O -_-"

There are more... but i shall stop washing my dirty linen in the public for now...

but then, it pretty much demoralising to see your scores to be a B3 grade while others are obtaining scores like 77, 84, 87... not only A1s, but HIGH A1s.

Anyways, some "quotes of the day" from my chemistry teacher, miss mok:

1. My ex-student burnt a CD for me and said that the lyrics in the songs represent his feelings towards her.
(My sixth sense tells me that the title of the song is Black Eyed Peas' "Shut Up")

2. 3A, your only good point is that you do justice to my teaching... (something like that? cause erm, we answered the graphite question correctly while 3B and 3C are zibei-ing thier own answers)

oh yah, she FINALLY gave back our SPA Skill 3, which was done like eons ago. ok, i got only a pathetic level 2/6. not entirely my fault, she didnt mark one question, otherwise i can get 3/6. Vincent got 0/6, thats something that can make me feel relieve.... but his exam got A1... so yah... you win some, you lose some. life goes on. :)

went K-Box with SJAB "colleagues" (sounds better than "squad mates").

A list of songs that I sang:

1.神奇 by 孙燕姿
2. 风筝 by ditto
3. Easy Come Easy Go by 5566
4. 气球 by 许哲佩
5. 我要飞 by F.I.R.
6. 辛德瑞拉 by 戴佩妮

that's all i guess. if i remembered correctly. after hearing all of us singing (and yes, meng sang...), we realised that Jerry Ong and Christopher Michael Lee can sing well... (well, that is in comparison with us...)

anyway, i decided to take back my words after watching tonight's Singapore Idol....... :P they still have not improve. neither did daphne. we sing better ;)

my votes, yah , voteS, go to Maia, Sylvester and Olinda. i personally felt that Olinda performed the best tonight. :-D

Go Oli!

Oral D

hmmmm Oral D does sound like some toothbrush and toothpaste brand right?

hahahahaha, anyway oral defence today was like easy peasy. had lina yong and melvin chng as my "opponents" as what they are called. anyway, melvin is such a freak, he was constantly staring at me throughout my presentation... :S eeew, he's.... erm.. yah... weird....
oh btw, weird is spelt as "e" before the "i". remember that.
